Holocaust Center of Greater Pittsburgh

Since 1980, the Holocaust Center of Greater Pittsburgh has provided people of Western Pennsylvania with information on the Holocaust. Programs to encourage public education and awareness are offered at the center and access to documentations, videos, oral history and other artifacts that highlight roots and history of the Holocaust is provided. It is open Monday to Thursday from 8:45am to 5pm and Friday from 8:45am to 3pm.

Monongahela Bastion

Monongahela Bastion was originally constructed out of dirt in late 18th century as a fort used to protect troops during the French and Indian War. Today is has been reconstructed with a brick face and houses the Fort Pitt Museum. People can find the bastion in Pittsburgh's Point State Park.

Senator John Heinz Pittsburgh Regional History Center

Located in the historic strip district of Pittsburgh. The center itself features over 160,000 square feet of space, which is devoted the history and heritage of Western Pennsylvania. Featured in the center is a large collection of premier glass and antique furniture.

Rivers of Steel Historical Area

For more than 100 years, southwestern Pennsylvania, including Pittsburgh, was known for its steel producing capabilities, helping create landmarks such as the Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building. Today, more than 3,000 sq mi (7,770 sq km) of land has been designated as the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area, encompassing numerous historical sites and making way for a series of educational tours. The area spans across seven counties and explains the significance of mill towns, coal seams, steel mills, aluminum and glass production and labor union struggles, all telling the story of the Big Steel era, which lasted from 1875 until 1980.

Allegheny County Courthouse and Jail

Designed in 1883, the Allegheny County Courthouse and Jail combines a number of features, some taken from French Gothic and Renaissance styles. The building was constructed between 1884 and 1888 with a tower that peaks at 300 ft (91 m). Today the building is used as a family and juvenile court.

Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall

The purpose of the memorial hall is to honor the memory of veterans, from any war or conflict. Exhibits are available and include information on black military history, item from the Civil War. Persian Gulf items include uniforms, photographs and weapons. Film presentations are made.

Heinz Hall

The hall was built in 1926 and has been restored. Many of the cities cultural activities take place at the theater. Concerts include Broadway, Classical, Pops and Summer Casual. Tours are available with an appointment. Admission cost is two dollars.

Clayton Victorian Mansion

Located on the Frick Art and Historical Center ground, Clayton is a restored mansion that was built in the 1880s. Owned by Henry Clay Frick, the 23-room residence contains many of the family's possessions. Tours are available Tuesday through Sunday from 10am to 5pm.
