James Kelso Bible Lands Museum was established in 1908 and contains ancient artifacts collected from excavations. Ranging in time from the prehistoric times until the Middle Ages, the pieces include pottery, bones and ancient textiles, baskets and leathers. The museum can be visited Monday and Tuesday from 10am to 7pm, Wednesday through Friday from 10am to 4pm or by appointment. During March, the museum is also open on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. With a series of displays and artifacts, Fort Pitt Museum teaches visitors about the French and Indian War, the American Revolution and early military tactics. Located at the Point State Park, the museum is housed in a re-created version of the Monongahela Bastion, a fortress built in the mid-18th century. Located on six-acres, the center features the home of Henry Clay Frick. The home was restored. Also reconstructed was the Alden and Harlow Greenhouse, which dates back to 1897. The center first opened in 1996 and is located in the old Chautauqua Lake Ice Company building. In total, over 160,000 square feet of space is located in the museum.
