Experience life in a World War II submarine by touring the USS Requin. Operated by the Carnegie Science Center, this vessel recreates the routine of the crew, including what they ate, how water was made and what they used the machine for. Tours of the craft are offered daily from March to October and on weekends during the rest of the year. The submarine is not disabled accessible, but offers a virtual tour in the lobby. Since 1980, the Holocaust Center of Greater Pittsburgh has provided people of Western Pennsylvania with information on the Holocaust. Programs to encourage public education and awareness are offered at the center and access to documentations, videos, oral history and other artifacts that highlight roots and history of the Holocaust is provided. Pittsburgh's Monongahela Incline is one of the steepest and oldest inclines in the United States. In 1870 the cable car system opened to take passengers up the 635 ft (194 m) incline. It remains in operation today, providing access to Grandview Ave, Downtown Overlooks and Shiloh Street Business District. The Point Located at the tip of Point State Park in Pittsburgh's Golden Triangle district, the Point is close to a fountain, a museum and historic sites at the meeting point of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers. Its historic importance dates back to the mid-1700s during the French and Indian War when it boasted a number of forts and bastions to protect the French army, until it was overtaken by the English. Visitors learn about the many cultures through a series of displays, tours, events, food and presentations. Once a train depot, Station Square in Pittsburgh has been transformed into a shopping, dinning and entertaining destination. Centered around a fountain with multi-colored jets that dance to music, the square contains unique boutiques and restaurants found in old freight houses and a marina with seasonal access to the Monongahela River. Discovered in the early 1700s, Mount Washington is one of America's best-known viewpoints and is named after George Washington who once stood on the top of the mountain. Overlooking Pittsburgh, it can be accessed from Grandview Avenue or by using the Duquesne or Monongahela inclines.
