Restored by H.J. Heinz at the cost of $43 million, Benedum Center for Performing Arts reflects its early appearance as the Stanley Theater from 1927. Up to 3,886 people can be seated inside the building, which today is still used for plays and concerts. Inside are more than 90 crystal chandeliers, 18-foot high mirrors in the lobby, 1,500 ft (457 m) of brass railings and many impressive carvings and ornamental decorations. Byham Theater was originally built in 1903 and was called the Gayety Theater. As one of America's premier entertainment venues it played host to stars like Helen Hayes and Ethel Barymore. From the 1930s until 1999 it was know as the Fulton and was used as a movie house.
